Merrill Field Inn

Ok so let’s be honest the Merrill Inn has seen better days and is rather tired’ but that being said and set your exceptions accordingly what you will find is a group of friendly helpful staff and a warm welcome. The rooms are clean and equipped with all you need. The greatest bonus is the shuttle service with a wonderful guy called Anthony who will take you anywhere in the city, pick you up and drop off at the airport anytime within reason. All you need to do is call the hotel. Where else would you get such service. Forget the fact the infrastructure has its issues and go and enjoy Anchorage

The airport shuttle to the motel, even very late at night, was easy to schedule, connect with and quicker than most. The room on the second floor was pretty basic, but clean and comfortable. There was a fridge and microwave. The window opened to allow fresh air in and the blinds did a great job of keeping out the light. There was a breakfast buffet that included, eggs, hash browns, sausage and the usual muffins, cereal and toast. The breakfast was better than expected.

The free airport shuttle was very convenient. I was also offered use of the shuttle to travel into the city in the evening. The motel looks plain from the outside but inside the rooms are comfortable and well-equipped. The included breakfast was quite good for a budget motel with some hot food options available. The adjacent Chinese restaurant offered a good evening meal (it has some Western options on the menu).

It's not a modern hotel, but it was more than adequate for our two night stopover. I loved that they provided a shuttle service for free, we were picked up from the airport, the next day taken to downtown and picked up again, finally we were transferred to our next hotel. Breakfast was also included, I hadn't expected that. There is a great value restaurant next door.

Good morning, Merrill Field Inn, Thanks for making our short visit to Anchorage a comfortable and personable experience. This first time to Alaska, two nights at Merrill Field Inn to get acclimatized and to look around the city before cruising down to Vancouver, turned out to be exactly what we needed and made possible, not only with great accommodations, but with the personal attention of all your excellent staff. I never figured out who was in charge, who was responsible for breakfast, who cleaned the rooms, who did the maintenance, etc. It was just a friendly, efficient and, I have to say again, “comfortable” experience. However, another “best feature” of our visit was the free airport pick up after midnight and the “quite a few” additional free shuttles all over town and a return to the airport later. Our first driver (let’s call her “Lilliana”), even at the late pickup hour gave us a welcome introduction to the city, while our other driver (probably a “Dave”) took us wherever we needed to go, with a great attitude, good advice and everything you would expect from a friend or relative whom you had not seen for a long time; and the wheelchair was never a problem. So, the Merrill Field Inn: good room, accommodating staff, very nice people, and where we would stay, “if we ever pass that way again”.
